As the grape growing culture of Massachusetts matures ,and as we explore the exciting new world of hybrid grape varieties that are being developed specifically for a North American climate, we are thrilled to be on the cutting edge of these advancements. One specific example that we’re having much success with is the grape variety Marquette. This hybrid grape, genetically a grandchild a Pinot Noir, has been bred to withstand our cooler northern climate and disease pressures. We are thrilled to present this version as a blend with petite pearl, another recent hybrid that brings a splash of Italian personality to the wine. A fruity nose with  a touch of autumn leaves, citrus rind, and a lovely bouquet of spice ( we get cardamom and nutmeg). The wine itself is full of bright red cherry and fresh blackberry fruit. Medium bodied yet quite refreshing ,in its youth it’s a few minutes to open up to its full potential, but once it does…it is lively,food-friendly, and reminds us of some of the best Northern Italian quaffers out there. Try with Pizza, pasta with red sauce, and burgers.
