A stunning Massachusetts sparkler that has been served in three White Houses and was a favorite of Julia Child. This traditional method sparkling wine is made from approximately 70% Pinot Noir with the remainder Chardonnay and a touch of Pinot Meunier, using the same méthode traditionnelle as Champagne.
The wine displays a bright golden yellow color with a frothy mousse. On the nose, aromas of toasty brioche, peach marmalade, lemon curd, apple blossom, ripe pear, and mild toasty yeast emerge alongside luscious cream notes.
On the palate, the wine offers a crisp, dryish light-to-medium body with bright, mouthwatering flavors of roasted citrus, green apple skin, and mineral accents. The finish is tart yet deliciously soft and creamy, with the hallmark fresh, bright, appley quality that defines this wine. The dosage is 0.8%, contributing to its refined balance.
The RJR Brut Cuvée spends over four years in tirage before disgorgement (approximately eight months before release), allowing it to develop remarkable complexity and elegance. In 2012, this wine won a blind tasting against Dom Pérignon and Veuve Clicquot at the Boston Wine Riot.
RJR stands for Robert James Russell, honoring the Russell family who founded Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery in 1986 in Westport, Massachusetts.
