Platinetti Guido Novaresi Vespolina 2021 is an Italian red wine. The wine is a beautifully balanced medium-bodied red, crafted from 100% Vespolina grapes at approximately 12.5-13% ABV, and embodies the honest and gentle soul of the land from which it is made. The Vespolina grapes are the first to be harvested and are fermented in contact with the skins for a maximum of 5 days in steel vats. After racking, aging continues in steel vats for a minimum of 6 months followed by further bottle aging for at least another 4 months.
It has an intense, fruity, and youthful bouquet that reveals bright red cherry at its core, layered with notes of wild strawberry, cranberry, and raspberry. A distinctive streak of black pepper weaves through the aromatics, complemented by green herbs—think fresh basil and oregano—and a subtle minerality that speaks to the terroir. On the palate, the wine is smooth and fresh, with that characteristic rustic, tangy acidity that enlivens every sip. The red fruit flavors persist through the mid-palate, joined by hints of pomegranate and a touch of rose petal.
Light yet decisive, the wine showcases Vespolina's signature spiciness—white pepper, clove, and a whisper of cinnamon—interwoven with delicate herbal notes and a fine-grained tannic structure that provides just enough grip without weight. The finish is clean and refreshing, with lingering red fruit and that pleasant peppery bite that invites another glass. This is an honest, unadorned expression of a unique grape variety—perfect for casual gatherings or pairing with charcuterie and cheese.
