A rocky island that measures 22 miles from tip to tip, Catalina (as it's referred to locally) is home to almost 4,000 people. Nearly all live in the island's only incorporated city, Avalon. A popular destination for tourists, Catalina is serviced by passenger ferry as well as by helicopter. Approximately one million tourists visit the island each year. Points of interest include: Two Harbors, San Pedro Channel, Avalon, Palisades, Mt. Orizaba, Black Jack Peak, Silver Peak, Mt. Banning, East Peak, Mt. Torquemada, and Whitleys Peak.
