Artist Statement

If I had to sum up my aim as an artist, it would be to capture the play in the everyday – an old-fashioned tin repurposed as a pencil jar, a whirl of scarves, a jumble of teacups… I used to search for happiness as if it was a level to attain, like a floor in a building where I could set down my stuff and stay a while. Now I think happiness is a brief pulse, a lifting that can be occasionally noticed. It lives in tiny moments and details, woven like colorful threads into a carpet. I discovered room portraiture in 2020 as a way to travel without traveling. My portraits are inspired by photographs of interior design from around the world.
