Community Canvas Reveal

Community Canvas, 78" x 50", 43 makers, 12 states, 2 countries, 30 hours,
Moby Dick Marathon 2026

This original piece of artwork was created January 3-January 4, 2026 in The Drawing Room by 43 participants while livestreaming the reading of Herman Melville's, maritime novel, Moby Dick at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

Visitors to The Drawing Room during the 30 hour event were invited to participate in the community canvas project by adding marks of any size or media to the canvas laid out in our workshop area.  We began at 10am on Saturday morning with a blank piece of paper, and finished at 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

I am sharing progress photos here and you can see more on our Instagram page @anthi_drawing_room, beginning with the orange undercoat.

We enjoyed participating in the Moby Dick Marathon and creating this Community Canvas that we are already planning for next year's festivities!  Save the Date, Friday, January 8 - Sunday, January 10, 2027 in historic downtown New Bedford.

Yours in art & architecture,

Anthi
